Earliest Meeting: Monday 2nd August 1852
Final Meeting: Tuesday 3rd August 1852
The small West Yorkshire village of Crigglestone lies close to the city of Wakefield and was recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book when known as Crigeston. Today it has a population of approximately 10,000, but back in the mid-19th century it was much smaller and more rural. The village once had two railway stations, Crigglestone West and Crigglestone East, but both have since closed. In the middle years of the 19th century the village held a two-day race meeting, including having the audacity to name two of its races the St Leger and Derby Stakes. The Bradford St Leger moved from course to course and village to village, having been held in Wike the previous year, and there is no further evidence of a meeting in Crigglestone after the inaugural two-day meeting.
